Hello and Welcome to Tax Year 2020!
For this tax season, there have been some changes to our procedures as we continue to operate according to CDC guidelines, as well as address the changes the IRS has imposed for compliance.
Requirements for Filing:
Before we can begin your tax return, we will need a completed and signed Tax Engagement Letter, as well as your household IDs (driver’s license/state ID). We cannot begin any work on the return(s) until we receive these items. The tax engagement letter is located on our website and can be emailed to you as well. Your driver’s license and tax documents can be uploaded to our free, secure portal. If you do not have a portal account, or require a password reset, please let us know as soon as possible.
For Partnerships (1065)/S-Corps (1120S), the due date for returns is 3/15/2021. There have been no updates or indication from the IRS that this date will be extended. All requests for extensions must be made by 3/12/2021. If all documents are not received before 3/01/2021, your return will be required to go on Extension.
For Corporate/Personal returns, the due date for returns is 4/15/2021. There have been no updates or indication from the IRS that this date will be extended. All requests for extensions must be made by 4/14/2021. If all documents are not received before 4/01/2021, your return will be required to go on Extension.
Also, all tax documents for your personal return will need to uploaded, or provided in COPY form (we will no longer accept original documents) by 3/25/2021, in order to ensure your corporate/personal tax return is completed, reviewed, and submitted to the IRS by 4/15/2021 (the filing and payment deadline). All documents received after the 3/25/2021 deadline cannot be guaranteed to be finished by the 4/15/2021 deadline.
This year, automatic extensions will NOT be performed. You will need to contact us via email to request an extension for your business and/or personal returns. We will require your ID, Tax Engagement Letter, and payment before the extension will be filed. Please notify us as soon as possible regarding the extension you want to file (you will still need to make your IRS tax payment by 4/15/2021. An extension to file is NOT an extension to pay your tax liability).
